The Power of Asking: Your Mind Already Knows

Have you ever asked yourself a question… only to have the perfect answer pop into your mind hours (or even days) later? That’s not random. That’s your subconscious mind at work.
You can think of your subconscious as your own personal ChatGPT or AI. Ask it a question, and it starts scanning your memories, observations, beliefs, and even intuition, searching for an answer. You may not notice it right away, but it often arrives as a quiet insight, a strong gut feeling, or a pattern that suddenly clicks into place.
The key is knowing how to ask. Your subconscious mind, is like your iCloud where beliefs, emotions, and memories are all downloaded and it is always listening. But most people unintentionally programme it with disempowering questions like:
“Why can’t I do this?”
“Why don’t I know what I want?”
“Why is this happening to me?”
These kinds of questions close doors. They focus your mental energy on what’s not working. And your subconscious mind, consistent as ever, starts collecting evidence to prove those thoughts right.
Now imagine what happens when you shift the question:
“What is the very next step to move forward?”
“What would bring more fun and fulfilment into my life?”
“What would I love to see happen next?”
“What’s one thing I can do right now to feel better or move forward?”
Empowering questions open the mind. They engage your inner wisdom. And the more often you ask, the more tuned in your subconscious becomes.
Just Like Shopping for a Car...
It’s the same principle as when you start thinking about buying a particular car, suddenly, you start seeing that exact model everywhere. Your mind hasn’t changed reality, it’s just tuned in differently.
Likewise, when you ask better questions, your subconscious starts seeing new options, noticing helpful resources, and attracting unexpected opportunities.
You’ve probably already used this technique in small ways, like when you couldn’t think of a gift idea, then out of nowhere the perfect one popped into your mind. Now it’s time to take it to the next level.
Try It for Yourself
Here’s how to experiment with asking your subconscious for answers this week:
Write down your question. Start with something achievable and light.
Brainstorm 10 answers. Don’t worry if some seem silly or irrelevant. This primes your inner mind to stay open and curious.
Ask before sleep. Each night for the next 7 days, take a moment to gently pose the question—and thank your subconscious in advance for guiding you.
Stay open during the day. The answer will likely show up when your conscious mind is busy—while walking, driving, showering, or doing dishes.
Once you’ve tried it with a small question, you can start going deeper. This simple technique can help you discover new interests, direction, or clarity in areas where you previously felt stuck.
